SHARING AN EMAIL FROM NANA

Date: Tuesday, July 26, 2011, 11:49 PM

In a few moments of down time for Nana I thought this would be a good time to send out an email with my thoughts from yesterday!  I believe the words are WOW!!!!  AMAZING!!!  MIRACULOUS!!!  FANTASTIC!!!  INCREDIBLE!!! But most importantly LOVE AND PRIDE AND HUMBLED!!!
So here’s my thoughts!  Get a coffee or a glass of wine … here’s the download!

The ride to Boston yesterday morning was a tough and anxious one.  Full of anticipation, worry, fear and yet excitement all within this same body!  We hurried to be there for anything we may have needed to be and as it  has been all along, Kate, Scott and Dr. Acker had it all under control (I’m laughing).  And the wait began but so worth it and I wouldn’t have been anywhere else, not even back on a cruise ship in Hawaii!  We spent the morning hanging around waiting rooms with our entire family talking, laughing, watching the world pass by and in the back of every mind was “what time is it” and  I can’t even remember how many times we each said that!  When we realized it as nearing 11:30 all of us started to really wonder what was happening.  We’re they here?  We’re they okay?  Was Kate okay?  How was Scott James doing?  Are they done?  Should we ask?  And then Scott’s phone number showed up on my phone … I think everyone of us held our breath as I answered.  And then he said, “we’re done, everyone is here, Kate is great, babies are great and up in the NICU unit, and then he said, where are you I have pictures?  I’ll come meet you!  I stopped him there and said we’ll meet you coming off the elevator.  I stopped him for two reasons, one was because I wanted every one to be able to hear all the details together because as it has been all along, Team Evan-Six was a group … we were an incredible team … and the other was, this Mumma and Nana’s heart was racing and the tears were filling my eyes … all was good and I was grateful!  So the cry was a good thing for those few short moments.  The worry was put behind, God had listened (as He always does even though sometimes we don’t understand the end result (and honestly I was prepared for anything) and everyone’s prayers were answered in the most positive way.  I remember as I walked to towards the elevator (mind you at a rapid pace) my mind was thinking, “all the worries, all the anxiety, all the times of being at the Evancic’s home caring for Kate and Caroline, all the fundraising work we accomplished, all the shower preparation, all the … all the … all the … well you know what I mean, were so worth each and every effort.

As we all stood just outside the elevator doors, the doors opened and there Scott was, smiling (for what seemed like the first time in a long time) like the Cheshire Cat!  He had a camera in one hand and a video camera in the other.  He then explained all the details of who was born first, estimated weights, how Kate did, what the doctors said, etc. etc and then he showed us the video of them being born.  None of us could believe how since January and knowing they were coming, how in all the worries and anticipation, that in those five short minutes of this universes time, three little precious lives had started, one at a time and my face started to hurt from smiling so much and so large!  There they all were … all three of them one at a time … yelling and screaming and flailing their arms as if to say, “Here I am and I hope you people are all ready”!!!  They were pink, they were crying, Dr. Acker standing there giving directions to Kate, and glancing off and on at the camera and doing what he had been doing for all these years (what a man!!!) and we could partially hear Kate’s comments in the background.  There was a countable team of 18 people in the room just waiting to do whatever they had to do for our Kate, our Scott James, and our three brand spanking new little miracles!  SO AMAZING!

Amelia (with Auntie Kristi) was first and entered at 5 lbs 14 ounces

Scarlett (second) 5 lbs and 8 ounces and Jameson (third) 6 lbs 1 ounce

I was able to see Kate before we went to lunch for a few moments and Dr. Acker was with her.  He too looked like that same Cheshire cat with a smile, and he reiterated his pride towards Kate and all she was able to accomplish.   He reminded us how things could have certainly taken turns that we never would want to experience if possible and we all agreed because we knew and had listened to all from him.  He is a straight forward type doctor and doesn’t pull the wool over anyone’s eyes.  But he was pleased.  Honestly I had a tough time not hugging that man with so much thanks and love that he could have stopped breathing.  I left Kate a short while later to report all about her to everyone.  And the new wait began so we had lunch (TGIF) and there in the middle of a restaurant Lou asked that we hold hands as a family in a circle (as always) and he said a prayer of thanks, of congratulations, of love!  We all had a toast, filled our bellies and right back we went to the same chairs to wait for the next event (hopefully everyone seeing Kate and the babies).  Scott arrived a while later and took us to the “new waiting room” and then he took each one of us individually to see the new precious cargo … and he was still smiling!  He was proud!  That was obvious, not of just his three new children but of his wife, and hopefully himself.  As I stood with him beside Jameson’s little isolette he said, “it’s going to be good”, “we’re going to be okay”!  “Now that they are hear and I see them I realize we can do this, it’s just going to be louder”!  We both laughed and I said, “YA THINK?”.  Kristi was with Kate and a short while later she met us and they brought Kate to see the babies on her way to her room.  She (Kate) had some post op complications but nothing unexpected and she eventually was good to move to her regular room for the next 5 days.  Then we met them in their room and she proudly announced that she was able to hold Amelia for a few minutes and she said that will such a smile!  A Mumma smile!  Scott took Kristi to see the babies as she had not seen them yet on the previous tour.  We visited for a little bit but knew it was time to leave as Kate need to rest up before the next round of nurses poking a probing at her to make sure things were all “falling back into place” and “all the right way”!  We got a final report that all the babies were doing well.  Amelia needed some breathing support for a few hours but they expected to get her off the CPAP machine more than likely by morning.  We all gave our hugs and kisses, and off we went back to the cars we had left 12 hours before and came home.  I went to Kate’s to relieve a friend of hers who had taken Caroline all day and spent the night there.

Today, all the babies are stable, they are out of the NICU unit and on the main floor with Kate and Scott.  They are doing the feedings and learning quickly just how much has to be done.  Kate is struggling with a lot of pain but that’s to be expected.  After all, she gave birth to 18 lbs of baby with people pulling and tugging through an incision area and she carried these three heavy weights through many a boxing match prior to them coming out!  She now understands how the pain meds work and when to ask for them and not rely on nurses to bring it to her so that’s helped a lot.  Tomorrow Caroline gets to meet her siblings!  Now that should be pretty interesting!  If all goes well, they will all be coming home together on Friday!  Unbelievable!

Will send updates when I get more time.  It’s been just a little nuts to say the least but it’s all been a training course of “what’s to come”!  Oh nearly forgot.  On top of all this, Lou has come down with shingles!  Luckily he’s past the outbreak timing so he could come to the hospital with us all obviously but it was a little scary for a few days he might not be able to!  But he’s dealing with that as well.  They are not fun!

Love to all, I hope you enjoyed the adventures of Nana’s mind.  Sometimes it’s an ugly place to be but these past few days, it’s like a flower garden in springtime!  LOL
