Hi friends and family! I apologize for the neglect over the past week. As you can imagine it has been very busy with the hospital stay and getting used to be home with 1 toddler and 3 infants. Please know I am thinking of writing on here each day - but I lose track of the time and day before I am able to hunker down for 20 mins to add an update. Anywho, I am sorry for neglecting you all, esp given I haven't had time for phone calls either. I know that everyone is itching to know how we are doing and if we are settling in OK. I understand that most people have been coming to this site as their way of getting updates, I will try to be better about it.
Also, I need to give a shout out to AUNTIE KRISTI - HAPPY 29TH BIRTHDAY!! Auntie has been such a solid piece at helping to make this family function in our new roles, and we appreciate her! Thanks for being there for all of us, it means more than you know!
Ok, updates. All is going better than we had expected. The hospital was a little nutty as we were up all day and night with the nurses coming and going around he clock. We didn't have too many visitors so we were able to keep up with resting and healing. I did have some issues with high blood pressure, so they ended up extending my stay an extra day to come home on Saturday. We also had issues with my pain medication early in the week, as in, there were no meds working! Yeah, so lets just say Momma was really uncomfortable! The nurses kept telling me the more I walked the better it would be, but I couldn't even stand, never mind walk. In the end we realized the pain meds were perkiset, which has never had any affect on me, and they were calling it by a different name (oxycodone), so I hadn't realized for well over 24 hours that I was feeling all of the pains of a very invasive csection and LARGER than normal incision due to needing to get at 3 babies. Oh, speaking of, a very cool thing that happened at the delivery is that Scarlett was born in her amniotic sac! It was very crazy to watch (yes, we have video!). The doctors all say that it is VERY rare and in folklore land it means really good luck! We will take it, we could use all the luck we can get, ha! Other than that the surgery was pretty uneventful and it was just as I expected it all to be and just as amazing as I dreamed it to be when I first heard each of their little cries!
Since we got home on Saturday we have still had very minimal visitors, mostly just family. We are trying to get nestled into our new life and learning more about each of the kiddos and their individual personalities and needs before we have too many visitors. Plus given that these babies are considered premies, the risk of getting germs and sickness it a lot higher right now and the doctors advised that as minimal of people handling them as possible for the first few weeks. Trust me, this is hard for us! All I want to do is socialize and share these sweet blessings! But it will be short lived and knowing its best for them I will follow the rules! I am doing my best to post a lot of pictures on FB and I will be better about adding them here too, even if I am not able to to post a wrtie up.
Being home has been great! Really great! Sadly we are missing out on a lot of the summer fun happenings as we are crept up in the house, but the growing and sharing this family is doing day by day is something so special I wouldnt trade it for anything. We will be so sad to see Daddy go back to work, esp ME! He and I have really found a nitch over the last few days and it is working! Between balancing the feedings so that we keep the babies in their routine (which is eating ever 3-4 hours) or taking care of Carolines needs. We have also been able to make use of the down time and be sure we rejuvinate too. The nights are not easy, but they are no worse than we expected. We trying to go to bed right after their first night feeding, which is anywhere from 8-11pm. Then we get up with them every 3 hours to feed them all at the same time. We have managed to do this well enough that from start to finish it takes 30-45 mins - not bad for feeding, burping, and changing three newborns - if I do say so myself :-)! Of couse not having to worry about breatfeeding in the middle of all of this has helped a lot. We decided after 3 days of trying in the hospital (which was actually going well) they it would really be in the best interest of everyone and the big picture to only bottle feed. As hard as it was for me to swallow that - I am glad looking back becuase this tranition would have been a lot of complicated and difficult for all of us. The babies are only taking 2-3 oz a feeding right now, which helps with the timeframe, but I believe as they start to take more formula, they will be better about sucking, swallowing and burping.
Other than that Caroline has been doing good. We have noticed an increase in her vocals (meaning higher pitched requests) and more of them - but this is to be expected when battle the attention of two parents who are caring for three newborns. She is now home with me/us full time. So the juggling of her and the kiddos, is only going to be more and more challenging. We are working on setting up "help" for the next 2 months during the days and nights until we have a little more of a groove for the babies. Meaning when they are more predicible and have longer stretches of sleep and awake time, and esp night sleep stretches. My mom is planning to be here two days a week, and I would like to be able to line up the three other days to be consistant (when and where possible) so that we all have a little regularity, mostly for Caroline. I am also open to and interested in the idea of a "mothers helper". So to those of you in the Milford area, please feel free to post in the comments section if you know of anyone who might be interested. The idea would be for someone to come help within the 9-4 hours. This could be to help with the babies feedings, entertaining Caroline, assisting with regular house keep-up, and starting dinners for the evening.
Ok, that able all I got for now :-) Thanks again for everyones kind notes, calls/messages, emails and well wishes -- it means more than you know and please know it isnt intentional neglect :-)!! Love and miss you all ...
