30 weeks - Who thought being 30 would be so exciting!!

Well ... week 30 has arrived ... hard to imagine we have entered the world of the 3's ... it can only get better and safer with each passing day! Initially the biggest goal was the "full term for triplets" at 32 weeks (July 1st), with hopes and blessings to get us to week 35 (July 22nd) - these days I just look forward to another full day of keeping these babies in and cooking.

As for the 30 week doctor appt ... well, lets just say "bigger isnt always better" :-)
The babies have grown a lot and are now measuring;
Baby A -Amelia 3.14lbs
Baby B - Scarlett 3.9lbs
Baby C- Jameson (a whoppin) 4.9lbs!!

Now, while we would all think this is great news that they are measuring so large - we soon found out that being "off the charts" isnt necessarily good. The babies are in the 85th, 87th, and 99th percentile for TWINS - aka - super LARGE for Trips! Now, there is a margin of 15% for error (either way) but even on the low scale, its bigger than they would like to see at 30 weeks for triplets, when the average size is approx 2.5-3.0lbs. While I wasnt all that surprised to hear they are so big (as I surely have been feeling this way myself) I was taken back when the doctor said this isnt as good of news as you would think. One of the reasons why it is not great that they are measuring so large, is that the bigger they are the more likely that they will come earlier than 32 weeks as the uterus and cervix can only hold up so much weight. Currently my tummy is trying to hold up for a comparison of a 12lb singleton baby!! The other issue is that the bigger they are doesnt mean that their brain and lungs are mature enough yet. There is some concern that even though I passed the 3 hour glucose test twice, that they are behaving like "sugar babies". At this point the best we can do is be extra careful with the best rest so that I dont push myself into labor and take precautions in case they come early - which would be to get the 'steriod' shot. So ... as of now we are planning to go for the usual weekly visit on Thursday at 31 weeks to have the babies measured again, and then we are planning to go into the hospital to have the steroid shots sometime next weekend or early in the week after - we will schedule exact dates on Thursday. It will be a series of two shots that are 24 hours apart and we will plan to stay in the hospital overnight. Once we get the shot, we will all rest a little easier and then continue to strive to make it as many days as possible!
As for now, thats the current update. I will try to be better about keeping up to date as any changes happen. Bottom line - we gots big babies that will be here very soon :-)!

oh, and we have officially scheduled the c-section for July 25th, however it is extremely unlikely we will  make it that far.
