31 Week Doctor Appt

WOW ... we are only a week from the BIG goal of 32 weeks ... and we have our (trips and I) support system esp including my Doctors, Mum, Husband, and God - to thank for it! And of course all of our amazing friends and family as well!

Yesterday was a great appt. They remeasured the sizes and weights of the babies. This time they are still on the higher side of average for 31 week triplets, but looking better on the percentage scale at 60-90% and measuring 3.9, 4.5 and 4.6 lbs. This made me feel a little better, esp after measuring my blood sugar this past week to confirm they are not too big due to gestational diabetes being misdiagnosed, which was a concern of my doctor. Since the babies are still on the larger size and chances of them coming in the next 2-3 weeks are very high, we have decided that going with the steroid shots (Dr. recommended if any chance to deliver before 34 weeks) to help boost their lung development. Since the diabetes was ruled out by testing my sugars 4 times a day all week, the doctor decided that I did not need to be admitted for the steroid administration of two shots 24 hours apart. We got the first dose in their office yesterday at 11:30am and I will be going to my local OBs office today at 11:30 for the second round. The full effect of the steroids will be in 24-48 hours from the first shot (Saturday/Sunday), and then at that point we can say we have done all that we can to give these babies the best shot at life and breathing.

Some days I feel as though I cant imagine I have another day to hold these babies in because I feel so large, and then other days I think I could go 35.4 days to the csection date on July 25 with no problem. At this point its a day by day and hour by hour process and I am doing all I can to hold onto them each and every day and hour. I am getting more and more excited about the idea of having a baby in our home again and cant wait for the wee morning snuggles! But at the same time I can help but wonder how on earth the 2am feeding with three babies is going to work, esp without waking up Caroline! There is so much for us to learn and understand about how to raise and take care of three infants, but I am confident in Scott and I to figure that out - with time. Speaking of ... I feel the need to give a shout out to Scott ... he has been a true gift from God all the years we have been married (almost FIVE!) but over the last 25 weeks since we learned the news of our family fate, he has been incredible and I dont praise him enough for all he does for this family. Im not sure how he does it all, other than to assume he is a secret super hero! He takes care of Caroline all day everyday, in every possible way, from diaper changes, meals, to baths, to reading books, to crazy outfits :-), to taking her outside to play, walks, daycare drop/off, any much more! Then he takes care of me, from meals, to water bottle refills, to setting up a place for me to sit outside, to taking to Boston doctor appts, to 3am food needs - and much more! Then on top of all that work for C and I, he has a full time (50 hour a week) job to bring home a salary for our family. In addition he is the "house-husband" trying to keep up with the many chores inside and outside the home, with mowing the lawn, going to the dump, laundry, dishes, cleaning bathrooms/kitchen, tidying all rooms that Caroline makes a mess of, did i forget to mention making Carolines "big girl room" and the new nursey complete with 3 cribs! Oh and ... the biggest thing he does - keeps me emotionally in balance, which isnt so easy to do these days :0) ... needless to say, Scott James Evancic is my superhero and I love him beyond words can say.

This week has been pretty uneventful which is the way we like it. I'm hoping it stays this way throughout the holiday weekend. Then come July 6 (Nanas Birthday) it is GAME ON!
