Another week gone by ... and here we are, on the brink of 32 weeks! GOAL!! This entire pregnancy journey has been a world wind ... each and every day has been such an incredibly important day along the path of this stage in our life. From the VERY shocking first moments of the word "triplets", which I can very vividly remember like it was an hour ago ... right up to the picture on the wall, the smell of the room, the heat of the chair, and the tears welled in Scotts eyes looking at me from above, I will never ever forget those moments. The sonographer saw two sacs right away, we gulped and thought ... uh oh, twins ... much more than we ever expected in this life, but manageable - then she said well lets make sure there are heart beats in each of them. Sure enough there were, and then within a millisecond she said "oh wait, this sac has two heartbeats, it looks like it split and you are going to have triplets". Yep ... just like that ... that simple and matter of fact ... and in literally seconds our lives were forever changed!! I remember looking into Scotts eyes in disbelief, like an out of body experience and telling him ... "you need to listen to whatever she says" and he just kept squeezing my hand as I sobbed telling me "its going to be alright".
Well ... after about 5 weeks of shock and denial we started the path of acceptance and realization by sharing our news. At that point we did the best we could to swallow our pride and fears to get ourselves mentally prepared for for the challenges of the coming months of bedrest and accepting more outside help than we were ever comfortable with. We knew we had to commit 110% to whatever it took to keeping these babies as safe as possible with bedrest for as long as humanly possible to get us to the 32/33 "full term" mark. Well, after many months of so many people giving giving and giving ... WE ALL MADE IT!! Yes, we ALL ... because there is NO way we would have been able to get to this goal without each of YOU!! The support we have been given has humbled us beyond words.
Its still surreal that this is our life. At yesterdays 32 week appt we got some fun 4D shots, a great one of Jameson and a partial view of Scarlett (see below). After the many many weekly appts and ultrasounds I think this is one of the first semi relaxing visits. Usually we are staring at the screen as the sonographer does the scan in prayers that each measurement isn't something startling or negative news. Yesterday just felt different. I am not sure if its becuase we are at 32 weeks (full term for triplets), or if its becuase with the steriod shot in full effect we know we could deliver with a really good chance at healthy lungs, OR if it is becuase this appt we actually got to see our BABIES in this big ol' belly!!! It was so neat to see their faces and to know we are going to meet them in less than 3.5 weeks.
As Scott said a few short months ago .... we can now ALL say ... "its going to be alright"
